Zizek psychoanalyzes the use of toilets in film

Last year a friend saw the Slavoj Zizek documentary, and said he and his girlfried “were about the only people in the theater laughing, but when we laughed, we guffawed. Because he is just so damned crazy!” I haven’t seen the documentary. I can just imagine the rest of the audience….

But anyone who can keep a completely straight face watching Zizek deliver this merrily unhinged segment of The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema (above) while perched on a toilet seat and then rowing a boat deserves some sort of dourness trophy. Among the topics covered: The Conversation, Hitchcock, defecation, the cleaning of bathrooms after murders, and the morphing, in Psycho, of a drain into an eye. (Via the Cinetrix.)
