The Big Bard

Reading The Innocents Abroad has cooled my ardor for Twain slightly. He’s still one of my absolute favorite writers, but no matter how marvelously talented he is, or how his opinions shifted later in life, and they did, it’s hard to watch a hero direct precision bile-darts at cultures he knows fuck-all about. So his bones are no longer in danger of being dug up and carted off to Brooklyn in the night.

Still, it delights me to imagine how he’d respond to “the BBC’s Big Bard Challenge,” in which 90 canvases will be combined to create a giant portrait of Shakespeare.
