More on Smith

Rapidly, this (because of this interview) is getting ridiculous.

I so love it when an interviewee is candid and honest and interesting for a change, but it’s pretty clear why people aren’t when this happens to them. Smith has a history of candidness in her public remarks, and they do rub some people the wrong way, but I’m delighted by them — in particular, the bit about the work of novelists being intuitive (if you’re lucky) rather than intellectual, which is spot on. Looks to me like her initial remarks were likely removed from the context bracketing them in the conversation, but the excoriation continues apace with the cluster bombing potential of the net.
