FEMA tries to halt Katrina victim photos

PEN American Center and other free speech watchdog groups are accusing FEMA of censorship as the agency tries to stop reporters from photographing victim recovery efforts.

See also, embedded in a Daily Kos diary entitled “Cops attack photographers in NO,” clips from prior media reports of police and National Guardsmen preventing journalists from taking photographs. And Boing Boing is on top of FEMA’s alleged efforts to block a low power radio station that would provide information to evacuees in the Astrodome. The station received fast-track permission from the FCC.
