Sci-Fi Signings

Margaret Atwood has perfected a futuristic apparatus straight out of The Handmaid’s Tale, but without the patriarchal overtones: a remote autographing device that she believes will “revolutionize book signings.” The Grand Dame of Canadian Letters offers this explanation for her desire to avoid traditional reading tours:

I am now an old-age pensioner, I cannot keep doing this. I can’t keep eating Pringles [from the hotel minibar] and keep getting on the plane at 4 in the morning.

Plus, she’s less likely to contract a cold this way.
