Marber to adapt Heller’s Notes on a Scandal

Patrick Marber, Closer playwright and screenwriter, says he’s adapting Zoe Heller’s Notes on a Scandal.

Notes, an elderly schoolteacher’s vengeful account of her friend and fellow teacher Sheba’s affair with a high school student, was shortlisted for the 2003 Booker prize, and was one of my favorite books (scroll down toward the end) that year.

In light of the difference between the U.K. (left) and U.S. (right) book covers, you’ve got to wonder what Hollywood will do to make the film palatable to satire-impaired American audiences:
