More shameful human rights news

Hey, you idealists. Remember how I said that Canada has its problems? Here’s a truly horrifying piece of news that I haven’t seen reported outside of the Vancouver, Canada.

Haleh Sahba, an Iranian woman who fled to Canada three years ago, was deported Tuesday, with less than one week’s notice.

She was denied refugee status by Canadian officials, despite the fact that her parents and siblings are legal residents of Canada, despite the support of her employer, and most dramatically, despite her insistence that her women’s rights activism (and the fact that she fled Iran with forged documents) would cause her to be arrested upon her return. Well, those claims turned out to be accurate. Thursday, her lawyer reported that Haleh was arrested minutes after getting off the plane.

I just don’t even know what to say to that.
