ZZ Packer on the Democrats’ lacking narrative

My admiration for ZZ Packer as a writer and thinker continues to grow so much that the world might not be big enough to hold it.

Yesterday she commented at Joshuah Bearman’s blog on the folly of writing off all red state voters as ignorant religious extremists. She notes key differences between white evangelicals (such as my mother) and black evangelicals (the community in which she was raised), and she assesses James Carville’s thoughtful observation that the Democratic party’s concern about interest groups has resulted in “litanies, not a narrative.” (Via The Most Elegant Variation.)
