Emily Votruba argues that the title of Toni Bentley’s anal sex memoir, The Surrender, is misleading in its suggestion that Bentley’s consent to anal sex was a sort of thrilling “subjugation.”

Votruba provides an entertaining chart that compares “Possible Unmediated Penetrative Acts, As Actor” for men and women. She finds women have more penetration options than men and concludes anal sex is more than fair to women — “Therefore: what surrender?”
