Drunken vandals destroy headstone of woman who inspired Dickens’ Miss Havisham

Grave of woman who inspired Dickens' Miss HavishamA band of drunk vandals have broken the headstone adorning the grave of Eliza Emily Donnithorne, a “jilted Australian bride” said to have inspired one of Charles Dickens’ most memorable characters, Miss Havisham from Great Expectations.

Says an Australian newspaper:

Like the fictional Miss Havisham, Eliza was said to have been stood up on her wedding day and in her grief left her wedding meal untouched at the family mansion until her death 30 years later in 1886.
