More Hollywood Wizards

The movie rights to Susanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell have been sold to New Line for “a ‘high-six against seven’ dollar figure.” (New Line’s the studio behind the interminable Lord of the Rings trilogy.)

I happened to pick up the very heavy Strange & Norrell in Chapters last weekend — and promptly put it back down. Now that’s a lot of wizard. What’s with wizards and fat books anyway? Why can’t books about wizards ever be slim?
