Zadie Smith’s nuptials

Maybe the editors at London’s Evening Standard don’t have an axe to grind with Zadie Smith, after all. Today’s report (not available online) on her marriage to fellow writer Nick Laird last weekend is sarcasm-free:

“It was the perfect movie wedding,” reports my spy. “She looked beautiful in a simple, elegant white dress and there was an amazing atmosphere of warmth and love”. The best man, actor Alan Turkington, made a “very funny” speech, while Zadie’s own “was very moving and made references to Shakespeare”. The wedding was held on Saturday in the chapel at King’s College, Cambridge. The couple first met while at university there.
