Happy Labor Day

Here in the U.S. of A., it’s Labor Day — you know, the holiday that marks the social and economic achievements of American workers.

What better time to celebrate than on the heels of new regulations that take overtime pay away from as many as 6 million Americans?! Not to mention the very recent news that poverty has risen for the third straight year! And finally there’s the matter of the tax cuts that continue to benefit the wealthiest 2% of the country. Hooray!

Do you think we’ll still be observing the holiday once the unions are completely dismantled?

On this Labor Day, as on all others, we in the Maud household will seek to give new meaning to the word “sloth.” Lauren Cerand’s excellent events listings appear below, and do take a gander at the McCrum article mentioned below that. Regular posting will resume tomorrow.
