Current Bookslut

In the current issue of Bookslut, Michael Russell has a fascinating interview with Cintra Wilson. Wilson disusses, among other things, snarky reviews, being compared to everybody from Dave Eggers to John Kennedy Toole to Dorothy Parker, and the near-impossibility of writing magazine articles in one’s own voice. An excerpt from Wilson’s novel, Colors Insulting to Nature, appeared in USA Today last month.

Also in this month’s issue, Dennis Loy Johnson of MobyLives (may it rest in peace), contends that is “doing something illegal, and everybody knows it but is afraid to call them on it . . . they’re trying to change their status from a retailer to a distributor. By law, you can get a bigger discount if you’re a distributor.”
