The “perenially bitchslapped-by-circumstance” literary critic Dale Peck “was taking notes and photographs in 1 Police Plaza Tuesday morning, for an architectural essay, when he was approached by officers and hauled into the station for an hour of questioning”:

“The M-16s were intimidating, but everyone was unfailingly nice,” Peck told Lowdown. After deleting Peck’s photo of a Brooklyn Bridge ramp and calling his editor, Chris Lehmann, to verify the assignment, the cops finally let him go.
