I dare you to name your son “Fellatio”

The McSweeney’s humor anthology appeared earlier this month. Included are two pieces by MaudNewton.com’s own Friday blogger, Stephany Aulenback: “Words That Would Make Nice Names for Babies, If It Weren’t for Their Unsuitable Meanings” and (with Sean Carman) “The Name Game.”

Carman’s “Lessons Learned from My Study of Literature” (“Alcoholism has a sadly romantic quality that conventional attitudes overlook. Society = afraid to say this!”) and Elizabeth Ellen’s “Words Used by My Grandfather in His WWII Diary to Denote Intoxication” are also included. (Thanks to Ed Page for the details.)

You might want to subscribe to my free Substack newsletter, Ancestor Trouble, if the name makes intuitive sense to you.
