Gore Vidal & Salman Rushdie: writers & horndogs

Gore Vidal and Salman Rushdie “are among the intellectuals who’ve written essays ruminating on hard-core erotica in XXX: 30 Porn Star Portraits” (NSFW), by celebrity photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders.

Vidal penned the introduction, in which he reportedly says: “Doubtless, sex tales were told [around] the Neanderthal campfire and perhaps instructive positions drawn on cave walls. . . . Meanwhile, the human race was busy establishing such exciting institutions as slavery and its first cousin, marriage.”

Rushdie and his current wifeAnd Rushdie (pictured at right, with his current wife) argues that porn “sometimes becomes a kind of standard-bearer for freedom, even for civilization.”

Novelist Francine du Plessix Gray, actor John Malkovich, and director John Waters also contributed. Waters’ contribution reflects “on sex addiction.” (Thanks to Judy for the link.)
