David Foster Wallace v. Gourmet

David Foster Wallace’s essay on the Maine Lobster Festival in the current issue of Gourmet magazine has been thoughtfully examined in some of my favorite literary weblogs. Now the Boston Globe‘s Alex Beam talks with Wallace and Gourmet editor Ruth Reichl about the “‘elaborate editorial compromise[s]’ required.”

According to Wallace, “The article was going to get yanked three or four times because they wanted stuff taken out. I was pleasantly surprised that they ran it, because I thought for a while their strategy was to demand so many changes that I would take it back.” (Via Publishers Lunch.)
