Two Crews adaptations in the works

Sean Penn’s proposed adaptation of Harry Crews’ The Knockout Artist has been stalled for years, but two other films based on Crews’ novels are in the works.

The Ottawa Sun reported in late May that Johnny Depp will co-star with his wife, Vanessa Paradis, in an adaptation of Harry Crews’ 1974 novel The Gypsy’s Curse. French event designer and choreographer Philippe Decouffle will direct the “small-budget thriller.”

And the screen version of The Hawk is Dying, to be shot in Florida, will star Paul Giamatti, Sarah Polley and Michael Pitt, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Julian Goldberg will direct.
