Not books, but fashion, at the NYPL now

The New York Public Library continues to struggle. New book purchases are down by 30%, hours and staff members have been cut, and there’s an emergency campaign to raise $18 million in new private funds over the next three years from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

But none of this came up at the Council of Fashion Designers Awards at the library on June 7. Instead, “style mavens discussed the sartorial sins of summer” (“Flip-flops on Fifth Avenue!” “Bikinis with cellu-leet!“) and Donna Karan accidentally exposed her thong. (First item.)
