Interest in world literature thrives among young readers

Salman Rushdie attributes “the diverse and youthful turnout” at this year’s PEN World Voices festival partly to an “enormous amount of blogging,” saying that “people feel the need to inform themselves about the world” and realize they can’t rely on the broadcast media.

If you missed the festival, the PEN site offers streaming audio for most, if not all, events, including the popular “The Power of the Pen: Does Writing Change Anything?,” featuring Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, Ha Jin, Jonathan Franzen, Nuruddin Farah, Ryszard Kapuscinski, Antonio Munoz Molina, and others. I probably won’t listen, at least not to Franzen’s part. I don’t feel like getting my dander up. (Via Moby Lives.)
