Welsh

From a profile of Irvine Welsh:

“I just decided that it was ridiculous to behave in my 40s like I did in my 20s,” he explains. “I’m not ready for my carpet slippers just yet (he’s 46), but I’ve realised that there are diminishing returns to going out and getting smashed for days. I’ve done that and I can still do it but it’s not going to teach me anything any more. I still have the odd line of cocaine, but I haven’t had a serious binge for years. I’m not ruling out another one, but it will be once in a blue moon. As you get older it becomes less sustainable. But it was easy to stop because for me drugs were recreational, rather than a lifestyle.”
