In “A.S. Byatt and the goblet of bile,” an article for Salon, Charles Taylor takes issue with Byatt’s critique of the Harry Potter books. Taylor says, “the either/or scenario proposed by high-culture guardians like Byatt … seems so churlish, so ready to make the appreciation of high culture seem the dreary duty it was when we were schoolchildren.”
