Private: “The main drawback is coming home late”

In these parts it’s common practice to move to a new neighborhood, unpack three boxes, and then decry the rapid gentrification of the area when other newcomers–especially artists, hipsters, and professionals–move in down the block.

A feature in Time Out New York or the New York Times’ “If You’re Thinking of Living In” column is cause for relentless bitching at the local bar, even as some hope that the bodega at the corner will be inspired to add brie and wheat crackers to its offerings.

Well, the NY Times column featured Greenpoint (my new neighborhood) yesterday, in a review as mixed as the title suggests: “An Inviting Area, Once You Get There.”
