Talented old coot weds younger beauty, let’s move along

AFP photoSalman Rushdie married his fourth wife, Padma Lakshmi, who’s younger by 25 years, in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Manhattan on Saturday. In 2002, January Magazine quoted Lakshmi, a model and actress, as saying of Rushdie, “‘To Indian people … he’s as large as Faulkner or Hemingway, and when I think about that, I wonder when he’s going to figure out that I’m just a silly girl.'”

Lakshmi will star in a screenplay based on a short story Rushdie wrote about a relationship between a younger woman and an older man, but the two say the story is not autobiographical
