Pulpbits = vanity site?

A number of writers whose work appears in online literary publications like Pindeldyboz and Opium Magazine have received solicitations for work from a site called Pulpbits.

The site (“an online marketplace assisting readers and writers of quality, electronic literature”) offers to sell writers’ manuscripts as e-books, complete with free distribution, for a $150 “PDF Service Fee.”*

In their solicitations, the editors claim to be “highly critical in our acceptance of work.”

So far, the general reaction from the writers I know is, at best, one of skepticism. Given the volume of solicitations, you should probably think twice before you send Pulpbits that novel or story collection you’ve been working on.
