Props to the Scots

The Chicago Tribune reports that Granta sent three Scottish writers (Andrew O’Hagan, Irvine Welsh, and Alan Warner) “on a 10-day tour of the United States, a sort of literary version of a rock band’s odyssey, and the last stop was Chicago.” Evidently the writers were floored that 150 people turned out for the event:

“The idea that you could come to a university and have people care about Scottish literature is astonishing,” said Warner in a brief interview shortly before the event got under way.

Echoed O’Hagan, “Ten years ago, it would have been completely unthinkable.”
