Presto

Mark Sanderson reports on a study showing that 50% of adults in the UK want to be novelists. In the past 18 months, more than 20,000 people have bought a program designed to help them achive their goal:

The program, “newnovelist” … assures budding Brontes that it will “harness your creativity” and “will guide you – in logical stages and with the assistance of many powerful tools – through the entire process of writing a novel”. Such technological gimmickry panders to the belief that we all have a novel inside us. The trouble is most of them ought to stay there.

(Another Garman gem.)
