Our correspondent is sorry to tell…

Whom among you can say that you’ve had an entire year named in your honor? Anyone? Anyone?

Rasum Gamzatov, the People’s Poet of Dagestan and author of some twenty books, including Lofty Stars, which earned him the Lenin Prize in 1962, is dead at age 80.

And because this site, which in everyway is striving to document the landscape of Soviet-era literature in its entirety, led me to such gems as The Soviet Novel and the Western, and Kornei Chukovsky’s Mayakovsky and Nekrasov, I would like to give a shout out to Sovlit.com for keeping the revolutionary step. Tres comprehensive. Tres harasho!
