Mapping D.C. through stories

On Saturday October 8, from 2-5 pm, would-be writers with a Washington D.C. story to tell can meet up at one of more than 40 different locations to participate in free creative writing workshops designed to, as a reader named Nick says, “map the city through stories.”

Nick compares the project to Mr. Beller’s Neighborhood, but with a “large net” cast for participants. “It’s half performance art, half community service,” he says, observing that the project’s founder, Joyce Hackett, is “attempting to reach out to people who might not normally be drawn into creative writing (some of the workshops, for example, are at prisons, fire stations, and the African Immigrant and Refugee Center).”
