P-boz benefit

If you missed the Pindeldyboz reading and auction last night, you may be hoping to hear that it really wasn’t all that entertaining anyway and to receive some sort of validation of your decision to sit around and watch a rerun of Seinfeld or whatever it was that you did.

Well, you missed out. Not only was the editor looking sharp in her black dress, but the readings were absorbing, and many fine and funny people were in attendance. Also, John Hodgman of the Little Gray Books Lectures auctioned off a bunch of cool stuff, including a telephone workshop session with George Saunders, another with Jennifer Egan, some of Dave Eggers’ artwork, personal tours of Brooklyn with Darin Strauss and Ben Greenman, and–I kid you not–Zadie Smith’s manuscript of The Autograph Man, complete with revisions suggested by her editor.
