Last week a Washington school district banned Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress from its reading list. The book was a best-seller in France and received good reviews in the U.S., but “includes a passage about a virgin having sex” that may or may not have inspired one student to depict a sexual act in a class drawing exercise.
A different student complained to his mother, and she spearheaded the effort to ban the book. “I think it’s too mature. I think it embarrasses kids,†she reportedly said. (Via Moorish Girl.)
*(as it prompted him to wonder if he’d emptied all the porn from the Internet Explorer cache on his parents’ computer).
