For word geeks

Wordspy is devoted to recently coined words and phrases, old words that are being used in new ways, and existing words that have enjoyed a recent renaissance. (Thanks to Max for the link.)

Cowboy Sally will be glad to know that today’s word is “earworm.” You’re on the cutting edge, babe.

My new favorite word is “chuffed.” I just encountered it for the first time yesterday. The OED says it’s obsolete, but I have it on good authority that the word is commonly used in Northern Ireland to mean (second OED definition) pleased, satisfied, or happy.

I’m totally chuffed about it.
