Coming soon

Am I the only person who didn’t know that Gary Shteyngart has a new book, Absurdistan, coming out in May? He talked with Natasha Grinberg about the novel’s inception:

I started it five or six days before 9/11, and, strangely enough, I set it close to the Middle East, in the former Soviet republics bordering with Iran and Caucuses region. I’d just got back from that part of the world and decided to write a book about oil and oil politics when suddenly the book had acquired uncanny timeliness. Still, I had to put it away after 9/11.

(Thanks to Jonathan for the news.)

Also appearing in the next few months, or just out: Literature from the Axis of Evil, Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic (a graphic novel that comes highly recommended), and new books from Lucy Ellmann, Philip Roth, Katharine Weber, George Saunders, Cristina Henriquez, and Roy Kesey (whose novella Nothing in the World won the Bullfight Review prize).
