FBI files on Graham Greene

An article in The Guardian this morning observes that, nearly 50 years after its publication, Greene’s The Quiet American “is still stirring up controversy over its apparent anti-Americanism.”

Apparently the U.S. government was so distressed by Greene’s anti-American sentiments that “officials in Washington went to extraordinary lengths to compile secret reports on the distinguished novelist over 40 years as he travelled the world in support of anti-US causes.” (Reported based on documents that The Guardian obtained pursuant to the US Freedom of Information Act.)
