Cuban librarians remain in jail for providing access to proscribed materials

The American Library Association has failed to join the call for the Cuban government to release ten librarians jailed in April along with journalists, writers, and others engaged in nonviolent political activities in Cuba.

Before the crackdown, the independent librarians made available from their homes copies of proscribed publications such as Orwell’s 1984 and the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights.” (Thanks to Tess for the link.)
