Crews on Hawk’s Sundance premiere

Ted Geltner reports that Harry Crews didn’t know The Hawk is Dying (based on his novel of the same name) was accepted into Sundance until The Gainesville Sun contacted him on Thursday.

He said he was pleasantly surprised.

“I reckon that’s good. You’re supposed to get excited and click your heels and all that good (stuff),” he said. “That’s cool. I’m down with it. I’m glad. Worse things could happen.”

Asked whether he’ll “make the trip to Utah for the premiere,” Crews reportedly said, “‘I don’t know…. You boys wouldn’t buy a feller a ticket, would you?'”

There’s some suggestion that his publisher might reissue the book to coincide with the release of the movie.
