  • Everything is Illuminated, starring Elijah Wood and directed by Liev Shreiber, comes out in August, apparently (fourth paragraph). Meanwhile Jonathan Safran Foer’s forthcoming second novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close has been bought by Paramount.
  • The film version of The History of Love by Nicole Krauss (Mrs Safran Foer) will be directed by Alfonso Cuaron for Warner Bros.
  • Oprah Winfrey says of ABC’s TV movie of Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God, which she produced and which stars Halle Berry: “My goal is to get as many people to see it as possible and to elevate Zora Neale Hurston…If two weeks after the film Zora Neale Hurston’s name is on the best-seller list, we would have won.”
  • Mira Nair will direct an adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake.
  • Filming starts next month on Augusten Burroughs’ Running with Scissors, to star Gwyneth Paltrow and Annette Bening.
