Alderman book up for new fiction award

First books by Naomi Alderman, Yiyun Li, and Olga Grushin have made the Orange prize for new fiction shortlist.

Alderman’s Disobedience, about a lesbian affair in an Orthodox Jewish community, appears in the U.S. later this year.

In an entertaining profile about Judaism and feminism, and Alderman’s attempts to “bash them together,” she told Aida Edemariam earlier this year: “There is apparently one dog-eared copy being passed around the Jewish community of Hendon.”

Alderman maintains a blog: on the life of a new author. (Via.)
