Winter hibiscus, and other unexpected developments

Pining for Florida back in June, I bought a small hibiscus plant that bloomed in my backyard all summer long.

I figured it would wither and die after I carried it indoors last month. But I woke on Christmas Eve morning to the flower you see here. It was the next best thing to celebrating the holidays in the Subtropics (even if, by Christmas Day, the thing was folded and sad as Elizabeth Bishop’s hibiscus).

Another surprising weekend development: I’ve overhauled my links page for the first time in a couple of years.

No doubt I’m missing some things; if you have a suggestion, email me at links at maudnewton dot com.
